Tip De Bruin

Tip de Bruin has been located at the Nieuwendijk in Amsterdam since 1953. What once started out as a boutique in men’s fashion some 60 years ago, has now become an institution in the city and far beyond. With four adjoining shops, each with their own ambience and clothing style, you can be sure to find something stunning for every conceivable occasion.

Tip de Bruin, founder and the shop’s namesake, was a visionary. It wasn’t long before he was selling well-known international brands in his shop. Something that was new and unique at that time. In the 1960s, he focused on the sale of artist's clothing, which was often made on commission especially for the shop. There was even a separate fitting room in the shop where bands could stand on a podium opposite a mirrored wall. Tip then operated the lighting himself, so that band members could see how their glitter jackets would look during a gig. Well-known Dutch and foreign artists visited the shop regularly.

Towards the end of the last century, Tip de Bruin evolved into the specialist for wedding outfits in the Netherlands. As an upcoming groom, you would have certainly visited the Nieuwendijk for a fitting. Choosing a mourning suit with the whole family at Tip’s, almost became a standard part of the wedding preparation.

After the turn of the century, Tip de Bruin became "streetwise". Many people know now us for our jeans, sneakers, tops and especially jackets.
